If 2020 is anything, it’s the year of the going plant based.
Approximately 350,000 people signed up for Veganuary 2020 and 1.16% percent of the world is plant based, yay!
I’ve wanted to be plant based ever since I was six, but my plant-based journey really began when I was seventeen. Everyone came back into college after Christmas showing off their new iPhones and Michael Kor’s bags while I came back telling all my friends that I’d gone vegetarian.
“Vegetarian, over Christmas??”
You can imagine the looks I got. But that’s all water under the bridge now because I’ve been plant based since 2019 when I made the decision to go all the way with my cruelty free lifestyle. And when I did that, I learned quickly that the mental and physical health benefits of a plant based lifestyle are through the roof. Let’s talk about them!
Your energy increases and you become more consistent
The myth or idea that us plant-based gals, are tired all the time and aren’t motivated couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve had so much more energy since I’ve been plant based. I’ve also been spending so much more time in the gym and I’ve been sticking to a routine too.
Going vegan was my new year’s resolution for 2019 and we all know how it goes, you do something for the first two weeks of January and then you forget all about it. Not me! Switching to a plant-based lifestyle and staying plant-based has made me realize that I can achieve my goals, I can keep to my plans, and make my dreams come true.
I felt like if I could do this, then I could do anything.
Your mindset changes for the better
Your mindset alters drastically when you go plant based. Three meals a day you make the decision to only include cruelty free foods in your diet and doing that gave me so much confidence in my life. I was saying no to things that I didn’t want to eat, and it made me feel so empowered.
Your body will thank you
My body thanked me for it too, going vegan has allowed me to maintain my weight whilst encouraging me to eat more fruits and vegetables. I haven’t been poorly in nearly two years and I feel less tired and more energized.
Now I feel so motivated when it comes to cooking and trying new foods! Not to mention the reduced risks of all kinds of diseases and health problems. Love your body and make it a vegan one.
The disadvantages of consuming animal products
Did you know that going plant based can decrease your chances of being diagnosed with heart disease by 32%?
Did you know that cutting out animal products also increases your life span?
Amongst other things like limiting the risks of cancer, strokes, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and more, a plant-based diet can also help prevent a whole host of health problems that meat and animal products contribute to.
Consuming dairy products has also been linked to acne and oily skin in general.

Final thoughts on the benefits of a plant based diet
A plant based diet has more health benefits than an animal product-based diet and you also don’t have to worry about where the food on your plate came from because you know it didn’t come from a place of harm.
Farming and animal rearing practices do a lot of harm to the planet, by releasing harmful gasses into the air and polluting our world.
If you choose to switch to a vegan lifestyle, you change lives, forever. Make that change today.
So, there you have it, the benefits of a plant based diet. I hope you enjoyed reading this article. Please feel free to share it and hopefully you, your friends and family will make some positive changes.
Lots of love!

3 Benefits of a Plant Based Diet
This article was contributed to us by Hannah Lilly-May of livefortheyay.co.uk.
I’m Hannah, part-time student, full-time plant based babe who loves to help others to live their best lives and get the most out of their day. I knew I wanted to be a writer from an early age and here I am writing blog posts. I was so excited to begin this journey and see where it would take me. But my longest standing dream was to be vegetarian (go on six year old me) and after two years of being vegetarian, I’ve now been vegan for a year! Wahay!
Not only that but I’ve also managed to travel around twelve countries in the last year and it’s taught me so much about taking care of myself and making my dreams a reality. We never know how long we have on earth, don’t wait to do something fabulous!
To all the guys and girls in the world:
